The first memory I have of Alexander McQueen is when I was younger and saw Lady Gaga wearing his work, from then on I have always been fascinated by his outrageous creations. Yet not really knowing anything about him. Recently, Netflix has come out with a documentary all about him so I thought it would be a great way to learn as I prefer visuals to take in knowledge, and this had a whole 1 hour 50 minutes of them. The documentary delves into his background, a very relatable one for many as he didn't come from money or connections built by his family, he built his career on determination and hard work. The documentary went into his past and how he got where he was and the opportunities he had. I found it extremely moving and eye opening as I wasn't fully aware of his own struggles or childhood (things that inspired a lot of the work he did). I feel like this documentary definitely celebrated him and leaves you feeling touched because of the tragic ending and the loss of such an amazing creative. Comparing this to the Zac Posen documentary which I've previously discussed, McQueen is just as sensitive and saddening in different ways, yet still informative and educating.
